A Live Free Animal Rescue Program

The Golden Years Program

Every dog deserves a safe place to grow old.

Senior dogs are the first overlooked and the first at risk. The Golden Years Program is our promise to them — we rescue them, care for them, and find each one a loving home to spend their retirement in. Because a gray muzzle is a beginning, not an ending.

WHY SENIOR DOGS?

The dogs who need us most are the ones most often passed by.

When shelters run out of room, senior dogs are the first to run out of time. They're overlooked for younger faces, surrendered when a family's life changes, and too often left behind for the simple crime of growing old.

But a gray muzzle isn't the end of a story. It's a dog who's calm, grateful, and still full of years of loyalty and love to give. We've taken in hundreds of senior dogs — and we're only getting started.

We believe, with everything we have, that every senior deserves their own forever home. Our whole job is to make sure each one finds theirs.

How the program works

Three ways we show up for senior dogs.

Senior Rescue

We say yes to the dogs shelters give up on. Our intake prioritizes the senior dogs most at risk, and we've given hundreds of them a second chance so far.

Retirement Homes

Every senior dog deserves a soft chair and a person of their own. We're always looking for retirement homes — loving adopters ready to give a senior dog the calm, comfortable golden years they've earned.

Seniors for Seniors

We match gentle senior dogs with senior citizens and sponsor the full $350 adoption fee, because companionship shouldn't have an age limit, and every senior, two-legged or four, deserves their own home.

A gentle match,
and a promise that outlasts it.

Support for as long as your dog is with you

If life ever changes and you can't care for them, your dog always has a home back with us

No guilt, no questions — just an open door

Facing an impossible choice about a senior dog?

If you're a senior or a family

Life changes — a move, a hospital stay, a diagnosis, a loss. If you can no longer care for your senior dog, please don't give up hope. Reach out, and we'll help your dog find a safe place to land.

If you're a hospital or care provider

Social workers, hospice teams, and care providers: if you have a patient or client considering giving up — or prematurely putting down — a senior dog because they can no longer provide care, contact us first. We may be able to take that dog in.
