Adoption Process

If you would like to be considered as a potential adopter for one of our available pups, please submit an application. Before applying, please make sure that all members of your household are on board with adding a four-legged family member! Our application process includes vet checks, personal references, home photos/videos, and landlord approval (if applicable). Please contact your veterinarian's office in advance to provide authorization for them to speak with us. All current pets must be spayed/neutered (unless there is a written medical reason) and up to date on vaccines. Please make sure all of your contact information is up-to-date and accurate, including a valid email address and phone number. Inaccuracies and/or incomplete info will delay the processing of your application. We strive to process all applications in a timely manner, but with the high volume of applications we are receiving, it may take up to a week for someone to get back to you. We will reach out to you via call or text to start the approval process.

If you are proceeding with adopting through Live Free Animal Rescue, we will require the dog to have a Martingale collar at the time of adoption, to ensure the dog's safety during the transition to a new home. Not all of our dogs are located in NH, and some may need to be transported to New England from another state before joining their furever home.

Our Current Adoption Fees Are:

Puppies (18 months and younger): $650

Adults: (19 months to 9 years): $550

Seniors: (9 years and older): $350

The adoption fee includes the following: a health certificate by a licensed veterinarian, fecal test, spay/neuter, all age appropriate vaccinations, flea/tick & heartworm preventative, and transport fees.

Please note that we do not adopt out our dogs as Emotional Support Animals (ESA) or Service Dogs. Our pups are rescues that come from a variety of backgrounds and will need their own emotional support as they transition into their furever homes.

With puppies 6 months or younger, we do not adopt out to families that are gone for 5 hours or longer due to them not being able to hold their bladder that long. If you have a plan in place please include that in your application. For example; dog walker, daycare, etc.

It is important to note that an application submission for a specific dog does not guarantee you will get chosen to adopt that dog. Our team receives multiple applications for each dog, and we do our best to place the dog with the family we feel is the best fit for its needs. Please be aware that if you are not contacted regarding your application for a particular dog, that we have chosen another applicant.

Please indicate on your application if you would like to be contacted for pre-approval even if the dog you applied for is not available. All pre-approved applicants will remain active for a period of 6 months.

Once you are a pre-approved adopter, we encourage you to watch Petfinder, Facebook, Instagram and our website for upcoming dogs. Should you see a dog that interests you, please reach out to us with the name on your application letting us know you are pre-approved. Please be patient with us, as Live Free is run strictly by volunteers, and many of us work full time jobs, have families and also foster dogs. Thank you for considering Live Free Animal Rescue for your next furry family member!
